Ben Brushett undertook a Bachelor of Coastal Engineering at Griffith University on the Gold Coast, completing his studies in 2008. During his final year he was involved in a project with APASA which involved developing and validating tidal current databases for Australian coastal waters. Mr Brushett is currently studying a Doctor of Philosophy which examines “Assessing Oceanic and Tidal Forecast Data for Search and Rescue and Pollutant Response Purposes”. This study investigates the use of several different meteorological and oceanic forecast models to simulate drifter tracks within Australian coastal and offshore waters, with the aim to improve numerical modelling in search and rescue and oil spill response scenarios.
During his time at APASA Mr Brushett has been involved in many projects involving many facets of coastal and oceanic modelling including hydrodynamic model setup and validation, oil spill modeling, drill cuttings modeling, predicting the drift of objects adrift at sea, dredge plume modeling, chemical plumes modeling, and water quality modeling.
