ASA will be hosting and Dr. CJ Beegle-Krause, Dr. Deborah French McCay, and Chris Galagan will be instructing a free pre-conference workshop on "Environmental Information and Trajectory Prediction in Oil Spill Response" to be held at Clean Gulf Conference 2009.
Dr. CJ Beegle-Krause, Dr. Deborah French McCay, and Chris Galagan will instruct a pre-conference workshop that will provide an overview of a variety of spill case histories with discussion of the science that governs how spills behave. Observations discussed include overflight maps, beach surveys and simple oceanographic sampling. Different types of trajectory modeling will be demonstrated, including working with multiple (stochastic) trajectory simulations. Students will learn the basics of how to put together a spill timeline from the past to the present and into the future using field information and predictions, and how to integrate results with GIS applications such as ArcView® and Google Earth. For more info or to register: http://www.cleangulf.org.
Where: New Orleans, Louisiana
Dr. Deborah French McCay, will be presenting two posters "Trophic Transfer-Based Compensatory Restoration Model" and "Evaluating Chemical Spill Risks to Aquatic Biota Using Modeling" at SETAC North America 30th Annual Meeting.
Deb French McCay will be at the conference themed, "Human-Environment Interactions: Understanding Change in Dynamic Systems." For more info or to attend: http://neworleans.setac.org/.
Where: Portland, Oregon
Dr. CJ Beegle-Krause and Mark West instructed a pre-conference workshop that provided an overview of a variety of spill case histories with discussion of the science that governs how spills behave to a group of over 60 attendees. Observations discussed included overflight maps, beach surveys and simple oceanographic sampling. Different types of trajectory modeling was be demonstrated, including working with multiple (stochastic) trajectory simulations. Attendees learned the basics of how to put together a spill timeline from the past to the present and into the future using field information and predictions, and how to integrate results with GIS applications such as ArcView® and Google Earth.
Where: Marseille, France
Eric Comerma, Rich Sweetman, and Deborah French McCay attended Interspill 2009 held at PARC Chanot, Marseille, France on 12-14 May.
EMSA was demoing ASA's new dispersant guidance model tool (similar to SIMAP with updated oil database and guidance on dispersant use). Deborah French McCay and Rich Sweetman were in the EMSA booth demonstrating the new tool.
Where: New Orleans, Lousiana
Jennifer Cragan and Matt Ward attended the Chemical and Biological Defense Physical Science and Technology Conference (CBD-PST) in New Orleans, Louisiana.
